The fancy-leaved Caladium bicolor (Caladium x hortulanum) grows heart-shaped, show-stopping leaves. The large leaves are splashed with spectacular variegation of red, pink, green, and white markings. Caladium plants belong to the Araceae plant family. They are commonly called elephant ears, angel wings, or heart of Jesus plant. Caladium plants are low-maintenance and with the right care, can be grown successfully as houseplants. These plants grow their beautiful leaves from underground tubers often referred to as bulbs. In winter, the Caladium drops its leaves and goes dormant. But it comes back every year in spring. Plants typically grow in clumps to 1-2.5' tall. Arrowhead-shaped leaves (to 1.5' long) are various shades of green mottled and blotched combinations thereof often with distinctively colored veins. Performs best in part shade to full shade, in humusy,moist,well-drained soils.Avoid direct sun or the leaves may scorch. Provide regular moisture and do not allow soils to dry out.
